About the Artist Sandra Yagi's work explores different sides of human nature, society and the fabric of existence. Her paintings question and challenge life's meaning and also embrace hidden desires, suppressed emotions, and unrealized dreams. According to a review in the Los Angeles Times, her paintings are "engaging, and also mystifying, requiring interpretive viewing. In other words, the art is true to its intent."
Her recent work explores and uses symbolism from traditionally bound religions seemingly at odds with modern society, technology and science. Newer, sometimes more troubling symbols of the current world culture have replaced old icons. Despite all of the new technology and science, the age-old questions regarding the human condition and its ultimate fate still remain.
Yagi lives and works in San Francisco, and is represented by Circle Elephant Gallery in Los Angeles. Her work has been featured in exhibits at Catherine Clark Gallery and the Vorpal Gallery (San Francisco), and at various colleges and universities, including solo shows at the American River College (Sacramento, CA) University of Tennessee (University Center Concourse Gallery) and Ventura College (Ventura, CA).
